Fabric Design

Our guide aims to assist you in navigating these choices with ease and confidence.

Considerations:

  1. Regular Application: Fabrics designed for regular application have their pattern or grain running up the roll. Here, the top of the design is perpendicular to the roll’s edge, offering a classic and straightforward application.
  2. Railroaded Fabric: This design has a pattern running along the roll, with the top of the design parallel to the roll’s edge. It’s ideal when fabric width needs to extend across longer pieces of furniture without seams.
  3. Pattern Repeats: All fabrics typically feature pattern repeats at certain lengths. ‘Repeat’ refers to the distance before the pattern is reiterated. These repeats, usually in 3-inch increments with a maximum of 27 inches, can be vertical, horizontal, or both, adding rhythm and harmony to your design.

Understanding Fabric Durability

Durability is gauged by the double-rub count, determined through a machine test that simulates wear by repeatedly rubbing a fabric until it shows wear. Different environments call for different durability levels:

Heavy Duty Commercial Grade: Withstands 100,000 double-rubs or more, perfect for high-traffic commercial areas due to its exceptional durability.

Heavy-Duty Grade: Suitable for 30,000 double-rubs, this fabric is ideal for high-traffic areas in homes, balancing durability with comfort.

Medium-Duty Grade: Withstanding 15,000 to 30,000 double-rubs, this versatile fabric is well-suited for moderate traffic in residential settings.

Light-Duty Grade: Handles 9,000 to 15,000 double-rubs, best for low-traffic areas, and typically lasts one to three years. It’s not recommended for upholstery.

Delicate-Duty Grade: Endures below 9,000 double-rubs and is primarily used for decorative purposes, not suitable for upholstery.

Our goal is to ensure that the materials you choose not only enrich the environment of your space but also cater to its functional demands. Let us help you make informed decisions that resonate with style and durability.
